Event rules

Registration is binding, and therefore participation fees are non-refundable. By participating in the event, you agree to these rules.

Participation requirements

  • Swimming ability and a minimum age of 18 are required.
  • Participants under 18 years old may participate with written consent from a guardian and approval from the organizer.
  • All participants must have valid accident insurance.
  • The name(s) of the participant(s) must be provided during registration.

Cancellations and Changes

  • If the organizer cancels the event, the participant may transfer their entry to the following year or receive a 75% refund of the participation fee.
  • If you wish to transfer/sell your participation to another person, a €20 transfer fee will apply.

Swimming Route

  • The route takes place in the Ounasjoki and Kemijoki rivers.
  • Participants must stay on the marked route.
  • There are no aid stations along the Bundle Float Swim and Santa's Challenge.
  • There is 1 aid station along the City Loggers' Swim.
  • There are 2 aid stations along the Lumberjack Challenge.
  • There are 3 aid stations along the SCR 20-Year Celebration Swim.
  • Aid stations and safety personnel are equipped with first aid readiness.
  • Participants must check in at all aid stations.

Equipment

  • If the water is cold (below 14°C), the organizer may require mandatory neoprene equipment (such as a cap, gloves, etc.).
  • At the starting area, you may leave your belongings in a truck that will transport them to the finish area.
  • Mandatory equipment: Brightly colored swim buoy, whistle, space blanket (not mandatory in Nippu-Uitto)
  • Recommended equipment: Neoprene cap, gloves, and socks (if the water is cold).
  • Prohibited equipment: Pull buoys, hand paddles, fins, and snorkels.

Timing

  • Participants must check in at all aid stations.
  • Participants must pass each aid station within the maximum allowed time. Information about the time limits will be provided later.

Participant Responsibilities

  • Participants must respect other participants, nature, the event organization, spectators, and local residents.
  • Participants are obligated to assist in emergency situations.
  • Participants may familiarize themselves with and train on the route beforehand, but must respect the local environment and residents.
  • Littering is prohibited.
  • Participation is at the participant's own risk – the organizer is not responsible for accidents.
  • A participant who withdraws from the event must immediately inform the event organization.

Event Organizer

  • The event is organized by Swimming Club Rovaniemi.
  • The organizer reserves the right to make decisions regarding route changes, schedule changes, and rule changes.
  • All decisions made by the organizer are final.
  • Violation of the rules will result in immediate disqualification from the event.
  • The event is experiential in nature, not purely competitive – disqualification may result from actions such as littering or damaging nature.
  • Receiving assistance from external parties is allowed only at official aid stations.
  • In safety-related situations, receiving assistance is also permitted elsewhere.


Safety

  • Withdrawal from the event must be immediately reported to the nearest organizer representative (staff member).
  • Staff have the right to stop a participant from continuing if their physical condition poses a risk.
  • Participants must ensure that the last support boat does not pass them.
  • Safety personnel will be present both on land and in the water.
  • The organizer will conduct a risk assessment and implement necessary measures to minimize risks for participants and staff.
  • The event will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
  • The backup date is Sunday, August 16, 2026.
  • The organizer may reschedule the event due to weather conditions if safe swimming conditions cannot be guaranteed.

Photo and Media Rights

  • Participants may use event-related photos and videos on their personal social media channels free of charge.
  • Participants grant the organizer the right to use photos and videos featuring them without compensation for event marketing, websites, and social media.
  • Unauthorized commercial use of the photo material is prohibited.
  • The event organizer owns the rights to all photo and video material captured during the event.
